I know this will annoy some people who want to leave comments, but I’ve disabled anonymous comments again.

There are a couple reasons for this:

• Even with Akismet and a captcha, spam was still getting through. Not a huge amount, but enough that I’d have to clear it a few times a day. The ‘register for an account’ button is enough a hurdle to make it more or less disappear completely.
• Those who commented so far have noticed that I also screen comments by default. The reason behind this is that a number of comments I get serve no purpose whatsoever other than personal attacks, or baiting. I’m completely uninterested in seeing these comments, as they add nothing to the conversation, and just clutter my inbox. Out of the anon comments I get, I’ve approved maybe 20% of them, and deleted the rest.

ftr: I was getting tired of the latter problem at livejournal too, and almost disabled them there. I postponed the disabling there until after I moved.
